Quick Update

September 5, 2023

After days of trying to figure out how to not have such a boxy look on the left side. Nothing seemed to work 😟 so I decided to see if I could create an area that didn’t ā€œlookā€ like a box. After spending time with stitch books I decided to try a Byzantine stitch. After practicing on a scrap of canvas I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t sure how going around a corner would work but I figured it out. It took several tries to get a count that would work in the small area I was working with. What do you think?

A WELCOME FOR WALKER

September 2, 2023
A redesign of a Kathy Rees Design

If this looks familiar….you are right. Last year I did this design when my first great grandchild, a son, was born. I had Kathy’s chart and full thread kit. I moved around the stitch patterns and made room for name and birth date.

This time the challenge is greater. I’m using some of the chart stitch patterns but this time I will be welcoming my first great granddaughter who will be named Walker. Having to pick threads from my stash for the ā€œpinkā€ look is a challenge. It can’t all be pink so the addition of pastels was a must.

I’m also working on a script alphabet for her name so it will look more girly….

The long rectangle area on the left needs to be broken up into sections. I’m trying to come up with something other than straight division lines. Any one have any suggestions?

My goal is to have this done except for the date….which may be December or January….by the end of the month.

I have several wonderful charted designs waiting in the wings….so many options. Am I the only one who is always looking ahead for the next project?

Just Playing Around

August 20, 2023

After finishing my Zumba project while at seminar I decided to play around with some canvas and threads I had stuck in my stitching bag.

Those of you who follow me know I love to ā€œdesign as I stitchā€ with bookmarks and small ornaments. I had some 3 X 4ā€ squares of canvas and some small thread packs from a long ago project.

These will be finished as small ornaments for my Christmas tree. I really enjoy the freedom of stitching without instructions. Sometimes I start in the middle and work outwards and sometimes I do a border and fill in. YOU CAN do this…..just give it a try. Use your favorite stitches and see how you can put them together.

HAPPY STITCHING

Atlanta Seminar 2023

August 14, 2023
Special Project Done

I used stitching time to finish my Zumba project. This will be framed and given as a surprise gift on the groups 14 year anniversary. This family of dancers has survived all these years. We even all came back after Covid. So happy to be dancing three days a week with friends.

View from my room on the 7th floor.

Those buildings off in the distance are downtown Atlanta. The seminar is actually in Buckhead, GA. A shocking $45 cab ride from the airport. We’ve had thunderstorms with lightning and rain most days. Wish it was happening at home.

The Westin hotel leaves a lot to be desired. ANG must have received a good deal to hold the seminar here. I won’t detail all the challenges we’ve had just want to say….we are making do and wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. Buckhead is upscale (read very expensive) and the Westin has only one restaurant that does NOT serve breakfast. A glass of wine is $17 šŸ¤Ŗā€¦..no wine for me.

I volunteered 3 days in the Exhibit and spent lots of time looking at all the projects that will be offered next year. Seeing friends and stitching every day is what it’s all about. Next year Seminar will be in Kansas City and I’m sure things will be better.

I’m heading to see an Atlanta Brave baseball game tonite. Another ballpark to check off on my list. And tomorrow morning it’s back to the airport and heading home.

ANG SEMINAR 2023 ATLANTA

August 11, 2023

I flew to Atlanta on Wednesday. After a $45 taxi ride to the Westin hotel, I realized I’m not actually in Atlanta I’m in Buckhead, GA look to the left in my photo and you can see downtown Atlanta.

Buckhead, GA. My view from my
7th floor room

It is always wonderful to see good friends again….seminar hotels are usually pricy but worth it. Not this yearā€¼ļø I’m very disappointed in the state of the hotel. Lobby area great, staff is wonderful, room leaves a lot to be desired. My roommate of 13 years requires a handicapped accessible room. The only one available when reservations were made was a king…ok. Website showed a sleeper sofa..

Actually room did not have a sleeper sofa, and did not have a walk in shower. All grab bars are in. Refrigerator was frozen up and not usable. Finally got replaced. After two phone calls we were able to get a roll away bed. The only restaurant in the hotel is very pricy and service is very slow. Ordered in Pizza from Domino’s.

We are rolling with the punches…after all the room is just a small part of what we are here for. It is raining as I type….now I remember what rain is😁😁

I will be volunteering in the Exhibit today for 3 hours. Love to see old friends and meet new people. Seminar could not function without volunteers.

Getting Close….

August 1, 2023
Adaptation

I’m getting close to the finish. I worked all around the ā€œZumbaā€ lettering and decided to just fill in with tent stitch. Thus I handled the ā€œmessā€ I mentioned in my last post. This is being worked entirely from my stash and I have been stitching in my ā€œplan to run out modeā€. I came very close on one thread with only a few inches left…whewā€¼ļø

I hope to have this done this week and must decide what I want to take to the ANG Seminar in Atlanta next week. I’m not taking any classes. I will volunteer and stitch in the stitching area with old friends and new. Looking forward to seeing many friends I only see once a year.
