Progress on Several Projects

July 5, 2018

On Tuesday I spent the day going through my studio. I try to do this once a year or so. I forget what I have or find things I have tucked away. I did some de-stashing and will donate some charts to my ANG guild. At the end of the day I realized that I had not stitched at all ☹️ But I had lots of fun. That makes 9 days of no stitching so far this year. Not too bad.

Patriotic Cat

He is all done except for the eyes. I have stitched them several times but not happy with the results. So he is propped up in my studio looking at me everyday.

I couched #16 braid for the outlines instead of the backstitch or stem that was called for. The metallic braid gives just a hint of sparkle and I feel the curves are smoother than I can get it with stitching..

Next is Magical Moose, painted canvas.

This is kitted with all River Silks. Both 4 mm and 7 mm. I have never done all needlepoint stitches using silk. It is on 18 ct canvas and I am stitching a little of several areas to get a feel for the silk.

Bargello Fun

Finally, my ANG CyberPointer’s chapter Is doing a bargello program this month and I have started on the borders. The project is Bargello Fun. The designer is Algie Higginbothem. I am working from stash. And it was purple DMC that provided me the required 5 values of one color. I am using a NeedleNecessities/Threadworx slightly overdye for my borders. The borders are all Smyrna stitches so it is going pretty smoothly. Counting is the challenge. I count often…….. I had a piece of lavender 18ct lavender canvas in my stash. The instructions call for white canvas and the colors were rose/pink. I know from my experience with bargello that when stitching vertically it is almost impossible for some of the canvas not to peek through, so I went with a colored canvas.

More soon. I hope everyone had a Wonderful 4th of July. Besides the fireworks I pray everyone remembered the veterans who made all this possible.
