Ivan the Terrible 12/29
I hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and will enjoy a Happy New Year with many stitching projects getting done.
Ivan the Terrible has been sitting all alone in my studio for days. He probably thinks I have forgotten all about him. I would pop in for a few minutes here and there but never for very long. Today I finally had a whole day with nowhere to go YEAH !!!!! I have made great progress. To the left is a close up of the front center of his headdress. The entire black area was done in tent and then the partial crescent was don on top.
The face, including the eyes, nose and mouth were fun to do because the areas are small so I was completing sections in rapid time. It is hard to tell but the eyebrows are done with a top row of french knots and diagonal stitches over two threads right under the knots. The nose was padded vertically with three layers of #5 perle and then the horizontal stitches in floss were added on top and stitched three times.
As you can see in the photo at the top Ivan now has a mustache, goatee and the beginnings of a hair do 🙂 These areas are also padded and stitched twice. I am getting close to having the thread stitching done and them comes the beads. The three skinny red lines in the headdress are done in red beads…lots of beads.
