Far Horizon, Beading Done !

I can’t even tell you how many days/hours all the collar beading took ! It was not difficult just VERY time consumning but it is done. The black crosses on the dress are also beads. I did add some hair and lowered the hair ties and changed the hair clasp to gold. My eyes need a rest and are looking forward to the background.
I have flowers to add to the orange pot and I will be ready to do the background. The background is suppose to be white but I am leaning towards a very light blue. It seemd to me that the white is just too stark. Any opinions on this. From class a bargello pattern was suggested …….

What size beads did you use? I tried putting beads on my Indian Lady but they look so large.
What stitch did you use on her hair? That is where I am now.

I used Mill Hill Petite beads and Sundance beads size 14. They are small but just the right size for 18 ct canvas.

I love your work and the Indian Woman and the beadwork is beautiful. I have an almost identical canvas that I put away years ago for lack of a good idea about the hair – think I’ll copy you. One possibility for the background: some class years ago the teacher suggested the color that is DMX 746 could be used as “sunlight” in lieu of blue sky. You might want to audition that color.

I used the Milan stitch (or perhaps the Oriental. It was a long time ago) for sky once, and it worked really well. I needed it for sky above a stylised landscape, which I based on a very windy part of South Africa, and a very pale blue with strong diagonals gives the impression of a very strong wind high up in the sky. You might like to give it a test, and see if it appeals.

I love the beading, it looks fabulous. I have used Northern Lights, very pale overdyed blue for skies. It is very subtly overdyed, so it does not overwhelm the canvas. I think your idea of bargello would be great and look wonderful with your lady. I too have a very similar canvas, and I think I may do some
beading with it as well, after seeing how well yours has turned out.

Your lady is looking fabulous! I love her! I have had good luck with using a single strand of a very subtle overdyed floss in a patterned stitch, such as Scotch variations. I think it would also be interestomg in a simple Bargello pattern, but still just with the single srand. It goes fast & recedes nicely.
